I found our fall intern using Bumble Bizz. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a networking app that was creating by the dating app Bumble. Imagine if LinkedIn and Tinder had a love child—that’s Bumble Bizz! Forgoing the traditional route of finding an intern, I posted a profile back in September saying I was looking for an intern—and in less than a week the wonderful, dynamic, creative and high-energy Olivia Bradshaw and I connected. Full discretion: Olivia is Campus Director for Bumble, and is responsible for marketing and bringing the app to ACC campuses. Anyway, fast-forward a few weeks, KVUE came knocking to do an interview about how we met, and yours truly was on camera (versus behind it, reminding my clients to smile and snapping photos). Watch the clip here. Olivia was actually interviewed by the Wall Street Journal (what, what!) about our success story here. Learn more about Olivia!
Where are you from?
I am from Austin, Texas. I am currently attending Austin Community College, but I’m working my way to the University of Texas.
Where would you like to be in five years?
I would like to be working at a PR firm helping young companies find their brand and marketing strategies.
What three people would you invite to a dinner party and why?
My ideal dinner party would have Jennifer Aniston, Whitney Wolfe Herd and Kate Hudson. I have always admired Jennifer Aniston. My sister and I growing up would binge watch Friends, and I can quote almost every episode. Whitney Wolfe and Kate Hudson are both lady boss's in the business world, and I would love to learn from them and hear their experiences starting their own companies.
What do you do to relax?
I make myself breakfast food and put on a movie. I know this is an unconventional way to relax, but breakfast food and movies somehow bring me to my happy place.
What's your favorite food?
Coming from Texas, my favorite food is breakfast tacos. I can't go a week without having Taco Shack.
What are your favorite places in the world?
My favorite place in the world is my aunt and uncle’s house in New Mexico. They live in a small "village" named Corrales, which is on the outskirts of Albuquerque. Their house sits on a hill where you can see the mountains and the city. This is my happy place.
What's the best thing you've read this year?
"Feminist Fight Club" by Jessica Bennett. This book is seriously awesome. It discusses real women's struggles in the workforce, and it offers tips and tricks on how to combat gender stereotypes in an office setting. My favorite chapter is a how to speak up in board meetings without being rude or cutting people off. I think everyone should read this book; it offers good advice and reminds the readers that they can do anything that they put their minds to.
What are some of your favorite local businesses?
My favorite shows to watch right now are Scandal, and Grey's Anatomy (yes I am holding on until the bitter end)
If you could pick a few words to describe yourself, what would they be?
Two words I use to describe myself as are: "Go Getter." I wear a bracelet every day with these words on them to remind myself to go after what I want, and to not stop just because there is a small inconvenience.
